What are macros?

Macros are short for “macronutrients” - Proteins, Carbs, and Fats. They are what your body needs the most to function properly. That’s right, ALL 3! So if you are restricting your body of any of these macronutrients, you are doing a disservice to your body resulting in an imbalance in hormones and other medical issues. Foods have different requirements in order for your body to metabolize it for use. It’s not the macronutrient that is the problem, having too much of it is.

Carbs

Some diets make you fear certain foods, such as carbs, which you shouldn’t! Other diets have an improper balance of these macronutrients. For instance, a low carb diet and performing high intensity exercises will deplete muscle glycogen. Your body will burn through the stored glycogen in your muscles first for energy. This means you are stripping away at your gains without properly replenishing your body with carbs following your workout.

Fats

Healthy fats are essential for hormonal balance and maintain brain health. It aids in digestion and helps to break down nutrients for our bodies use. Incorporating fats into your daily diet helps to keep you satisfied longer and prevents you from reaching for that added snack after your meal.

Protein

Protein helps to build lean muscle. Foods rich in protein have the highest thermogenic effect and require more calories for your body to break down and absorb. If you want to boost your metabolism, incorporate an appropriate amount of protein into your diet.
